Compare programmes with similar purposes, then inspect their stages and requirements. Similar content does not mean the tests have the same difficulty or that one qualification transfers to another country.

SECTION 2 – TESTS (PART D - ICE DANCE and SOLO ICE DANCE) Ice Skating Australia By-Laws Last Updated: September 2025 Page 1 of 9 SECTION 2 TESTS PART D – ICE DANCE and SOLO ICE DANCE Amended September 2025 Refer also to Section 2 – TESTS (Part A - General and Pattern Skills Tests) By-Law 240 1. Tests in ice dance comprise selected pattern dances from Preliminary to Senior Gold level for partnered Pattern Dance (Recreational) Tests, Basic Novice to Senior level for Competitive Dance Tests and Preliminary to Senior for Solo Ice Dance Tests. 2. A candidate for the Pattern Dance (Recreational) Tests may choose any partner, subject to the approval of the Judges. The composition of a couple attempting a test is one woman and one man. However, if necessary, female or male coaches may partner same gender test candidates. A combination of eligible and ineligible persons is permitted. A dance partnership with a current record of Basic Novice Championship or above, may choose to be judged as a couple from Intermediate Novice Pattern Dance (Recreational)Tests and beyond. Pattern Dance (Recreational) Tests must be partnered and not solo. The composition of a couple attempting the Competitive Dance Tests is one woman and one man. Competitive Dance tests can only be performed by a competitive dance partnership registered with Ice Skating Australia. A coach or other person or ineligible person cannot partner a Competitive Dance test candidate. 4. Solo Ice Dance tests will count towards qualification only for Solo Ice Dance events and not for regular partnered Dance events. Refer to the most recent ISU/ISA Solo Ice Dance Competition Guidelines for the steps to be performed in the Pattern Dances. 5. For Competitive Dance tests, a skater/couple must perform the test which reflects their partnership circumstances at the time of submitting the test application a) A skater who has previously been in, but is currently not in, a competitive partnership, must perform the respective Pattern Dance (Recreational) Test or Solo Ice Dance Test for the next level. b) Should a partnership end and one partner make a new competitive partnership, in circumstances where neither partner has the relevant ice dance test for the level intended to compete, the partnership together perform the respective Pattern Dance (Recreational) Tests for levels up to and including Elementary, or, if Basic Novice or higher, performs the Competitive Dance Test as a couple. c) If in a new partnership one skater has the required test, Pattern Dance (Recreational) or Competitive Dance and the other does not, the second partner must perform the respective Pattern Dance (Recreational) test for levels up to and including Elementary. For Basic Novice, Intermediate Novice, Advanced Novice, Junior or Senior, the couple will perform the respective Competitive Dance test together.
