Gold Singles Test Judge Appointment – Minimum Requirements
Present Grade Pre-silver singles test judge
eLearning Required courses:
• Officials Philosophy
• Communication and Feedback
• Skating skills courses for silver, pre-gold and gold*
Each eLearning course may count toward more than one appointment, if applicable. Courses that include an assessment require a minimum score of 80
percent to count.
*Some courses are still being written and produced. Applicants are only required to complete the courses that are available prior to their application.
Trial Judging
Activity
Advanced Candidates
The required trial judging activity can be in
person or virtual, but at least one in-person trial
judging session is required.
• Minimum of six skating skills tests with at
least one each from silver, pre-gold and gold
• Minimum of six singles tests with at least
one each from silver, pre-gold and gold
Accelerated Candidates
The required trial judging activity can be in
person or virtual, but at least two in-person trial
judging sessions are required.
• Minimum of nine skating skills tests with at
least one each from silver, pre-gold and
gold
• Minimum of nine singles tests with at least
one each from silver, pre-gold and gold
Standard Candidates
The required trial judging activity can be in
person or virtual, but at least two in-person trial
judging sessions are required.
• Minimum of 12 skating skills tests with at
least one each from silver, pre-gold and gold
• Minimum of 12 singles tests with at least
one each from silver, pre-gold and gold
Trial Judging
Papers
Applicants are encouraged to trial judge adult tests when the opportunities arise, but adult tests will not count toward the required trial judging.
Papers submitted for appointment must be originals. Papers may be scanned and emailed or completed electronically.
Papers must include comments, which must be legible.
Trial Judging
Accuracy
85 percent agreement with unanimously judged skating skills and singles tests
85 percent agreement with outcome for skating skills and singles tests
90 percent agreement with any judge for skating skills and singles tests
Test Judging
Activity/Accuracy
Judged at a minimum of two different test sessions at pre-silver level
85 percent agreement with outcome of tests judged
Promotional
Exam
Must score at least 80 percent (this requirement cannot be modified)
Exam will be emailed by headquarters after application is submitted
• Successful completion of a promotional school conducted by the Judges Training Subcommittee may be substituted for trial judging experience.
• Trial papers and eLearning courses must be dated within the two years preceding the date of the application for promotion.
• Marks and comments must relate to each other, accurately identify elements and demonstrate knowledge of standards.
• Test Activity Report from the U.S. Figure Skating Members Only site should be submitted with the application.
• Applicants who meet the requirements for the accelerated or advanced track through the corresponding pairs tests and/or pairs competitions may be granted a gold
pairs test judge certification in conjunction with their gold singles test judge appointment.
• Applicants cannot have any open professional standards or ethics complaints or violations.
• Guidelines may be modified by the applicable sectional vice chair or the national vice chair of the Judges Management Subcommittee.
• Officials who earn a qualifying singles/pairs competition judge appointment will automatically earn a gold singles test judge appointment and gold pairs test judge
certification.
