Compare programmes with similar purposes, then inspect their stages and requirements. Similar content does not mean the tests have the same difficulty or that one qualification transfers to another country.

Skate Canada Virtual Assessments – Section Reference Guide August 2024 Copyright © 2024 Skate Canada 19 Trends and Observations The information below identifies the current trends and observations of virtual assessment days as of May 2021. Online Meeting Platforms Microsoft Teams supports a more stable capture of audio at rink side. Zoom meetings require the individual in the rink to adjust their Zoom audio settings to allow for “background noise” to be captured. Device Performance Newer devices have been seen to have the best video capabilities. Latest versions of Ipads have also been good and have been seen to be easier for the videographer to use as they can see a bigger picture of what they are filming. Laptops have been seen to be the best devices for capturing audio. Tripods are highly recommended for the videographer as it allows for a more stable approach to the filming of the assessments. Having additional devices on site as back-up is essential for both the technology check and the virtual assessment day. Connectivity Private wi-fi is generally the best option. The use of data through a phone or tablet is also an option and may lead to additional costs to the club or skating school. Discipline Feasibility Although not ideal, Dance assessments can be completed through virtual opportunities. Sections should however consider strategies for hosting in-person opportunities, either centralized or regional, to allow for the best development opportunities of its skaters. Extenuating Circumstances It is recommended for the service technician to have all participant’s (i.e., assessment coordinator and evaluator) phone numbers should the connection be lost during the virtual assessment day. The preferred method for sending recorded videos (extenuating circumstances only) is through Whats App due do the efficiency of transfer and the ability to view on a desktop. Remote Attendance Generally, the individuals logged onto the meeting platform for the virtual assessment day will include the service technician, the evaluator and the videographer (may have additional device joining for audio purposes). It is recommended that the number of individuals joining the online meeting platform be kept as low as possible to support the quality of the video feed.
