Skate Canada Virtual Assessments – Section Reference Guide August 2024 Copyright © 2024 Skate Canada 17 Training of Service Technicians for Virtual Assessments Service technicians play a crucial role in the preparation and delivery of virtual assessment days. Sections will decide who, and how many individuals will be needed in this role. Prior to training, potential candidates could receive a copy of the Virtual Assessments – Service Technician Reference Guide which outlines the necessary skill set, equipment and recommended training required to participate to provide information to them before their decision. Service Technician Recommended Competencies Service technicians must be: • Able to support both PC and Mac operating systems. • Able to troubleshoot with various devices based on configuration of individual users’ devices and connectivity. • Comfortable with the use of the computer-based equipment and online applications. o Able to use online meeting platforms (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, etc.). • Able to communicate in calm and efficient manner. Further information on required equipment, set-up, technology check and virtual assessment procedures can be found in the Service Technician Reference Guide. Service Technician Training Requirements Sections are required to provide training to their service technicians. Training will include: - Review of the Service Technician Reference Guide. - Participate in a technology check and virtual assessment information session. - Observe at least one technology check. - Observe at least one virtual assessment day or part of. Information sessions will be coordinated by each section, as required, to train and prepare prospective service technicians. Experienced service technicians, as appointed by the section, may facilitate these sessions or be available for support. These sessions can be done in a group format or one-on-one. Group sessions allow opportunities for discussion, support, sharing of experiences and allow for consistent messaging. Sections will have access to resources to utilize in these information sessions. Resources include: - Video examples (e.g., technology checks, virtual assessment days). - Question prompts. - Problem scenarios for discussion.
