Skate Canada Virtual Assessments – Section Reference Guide August 2024 Copyright © 2024 Skate Canada 14 Training of Evaluators and Service Technicians in the Virtual Format Evaluators and service technicians involved in virtual assessments must be trained. It is the responsibility of the section to identify individuals who best fit this qualification/role. Training of Evaluators for Virtual Assessments Evaluators selected to perform virtual assessments must have the skill set, equipment, and desire to assess virtually. Prior to training, potential candidates could receive a copy of the Virtual Assessments - Evaluator Reference Guide which outlines the necessary skill set, equipment and recommended training required to participate to provide information to them before their decision. Virtual Evaluator Required Competencies and Characteristics In addition to the Roles and Responsibilities required of an Evaluator as outlined in the STAR Assessment Resource Guide (page 7), selection is based on acquisition of the following skills necessary for successful remote evaluating: • Qualified evaluator or skills coach assessor (STAR 6-Gold) • Comfortable with the use of the computer-based equipment and online applications. o Able to use online meeting platforms (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, etc.). • Comfortable identifying and speaking out when a technology glitch occurs, or if the format/process is not going as planned. • Comfortable with virtual interactions (e.g., giving direction and feedback to skaters/coaches virtually face to face). • The ability to stay calm and remain patient when technology issues occur. • Comfortable and confident with assessing in a virtual format (there is a different feel/look as compared to an in-person format). Training of Evaluators for Virtual Assessing Evaluators who are interested in becoming virtual evaluators are required to complete the following in preparation for virtual assessing: - Review the Virtual Evaluator Reference Guide. - Participate in a virtual assessment Q&A Session. - Observe at least one technology check – Optional. - Observe at least one virtual assessment day or part of– Optional.
