Skate Canada Virtual Assessments – Section Reference Guide August 2024 Copyright © 2024 Skate Canada 12 The Virtual Assessment Day The information below pertains to the tasks required on the virtual assessment day. All virtual assessments are conducted in a “live” virtual format, with the evaluator watching the skater perform in real time through the online meeting platform. The virtual assessment day will proceed as follows. Logging onto the meeting platform As identified on the schedule, the log on time is always 15 minutes before the first warm-up. Should any participants fail to log on at the scheduled time, the service technician is responsible to locate those who are missing and inquire/troubleshoot any issues related to connecting to the platform. Once all participants have logged on (i.e., service technician, evaluator, videographer), the service technician will lead everyone through a visual and audio sound check. Upon completion, the service technician will turn off their camera and mute their mic, handing off the meeting to the evaluator. The service technician must remain on the call for the duration of the assessment day to assist with technology related issues that may arise during the assessment day. The evaluator will have their camera and mic on, along with the videographer (camera) and any other device(s) capturing the music (audio). Assessment Direction The evaluator will direct the assessment day as per the schedule, including conversations with the coach(es) and skater(s). This includes: o Introductions o Instructions o Draws o Feedback and result delivery o Changes to the schedule to keep on time. Evaluators may sometimes turn their video off during an assessment to support a better video feed from the rink when necessary. The evaluator must ensure that all results are delivered verbally to each skater before the end of the assessment day. The skaters/coaches and evaluator must be able to see each other during all interactions (e.g., introductions, feedback exchange).
