Skate Canada Virtual Assessments – Club & Skating School Coach Reference Guide August 2024 Copyright © 2024 Skate Canada 10 • Skaters should be prepared to skate additional sequences/patterns of the dance in the event of technology challenges. • If utilizing shadow dancers, ensure that they do not block the view of the skater being assessed from the camera. Imagine that the camera is the sun, the shadow will always be behind the skater from its perspective. All disciplines: Re-skates or re-starts given due to technology glitches will not affect the number of “permitted” re-skates identified on assessment sheets. Administrative Preparation The assessment coordinator, or appointed individual, at each club and skating school is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of the schedule, assessment sheets and planned program sheets as well as any administrative tasks required following the virtual assessment day. Schedule A schedule must be prepared by the club or skating school prior to the virtual assessment day. They must provide the final schedule to the evaluator a minimum of 48 hours before the Assessment Day. A schedule template and instructions are included below to assist with this process. Three hours is the maximum time allotted for any one virtual assessment session. Virtual assessment days requiring more than a three-hour session must be divided into separate sessions to allow for breaks for the evaluators or a switch of evaluators. To save on costs, it is recommended that clubs and skating schools work within their regularly timed sessions to schedule the virtual assessments. Skills and Freeskate Element assessments may be completed during a regular session and do not require clear ice. Dance, Artistic and Freeskate Programs, will require clear ice, however, can still be completed during a regular session with the other skaters on the session standing at the boards during the pattern dance/program. Note: Assessment coordinators must ensure that all skaters pursuing assessments are eligible. Schedule Instructions • Contact Information: The following information must be provided on the schedule: o Name, phone number and email of club contact and videographer. This will facilitate communication should the connection be lost during the assessment day. o The evaluator must be provided with the assessment coordinator’s email to send the assessments sheets to upon completion. This process may vary across sections. • Timing: Additional time is scheduled for virtual assessments to allow for potential delays and the virtual delivery of feedback. The chart below identifies recommended time allotments for virtual assessments within each discipline.
