How progression works
The standard skating-skills sequence is Pre-Preliminary, Preliminary, Pre-Bronze, Bronze, Pre-Silver, Silver, Pre-Gold and Gold. Other disciplines and adult routes have their own sequences and prerequisites. A list’s display order is not a substitute for those rules.
Adult skating
U.S. Figure Skating documents a separate adult test track for ages 21 and over. Learn to Skate USA also offers an adult learning curriculum; passing a curriculum stage is not the same as passing a federation test. Skate United is a documented candidate route, not an additional level above Gold.
Sources and effective dates
The 2026/27 rulebook and the four federation-linked test requirement charts were retrieved on 20 September 2026 and matched the copies already preserved here. The federation lists separate effective dates: singles changes from 3 March 2026, pairs and partnered free dance from 1 June, and solo free dance from 1 July. The current rulebook and charts control if a summary differs.

What this guide does not establish
Some detailed records retain older source context. In particular, the collected pattern-dance records cite the 2025/26 rulebook; consult the current 2026/27 rulebook before using them as current requirements. Learn to Skate curriculum charts include public mirrors with unverified editions. They are retained as collected material, not certified as today’s complete syllabus. Fees and foreign-test recognition are not established by this guide.
